Greetings from the East, Brethren!
We are marching towards the end of the year. November is upon us. That means that the temperatures and leaves are falling, the pumpkins are being prepared to be made into pies, and we tread ever forward to winter and the holiday season. I hope it’s all a pleasant journey for you. This is my favorite time of year. It reminds me of my time as a student. We’re in the middle of doing important work, but also taking time for sharing the bounty of everything that we’ve done in the spring and summer and celebrating the fruits of our labor.
Speaking of the fruits of labor – A big congratulations to our newest Master Mason, Brother Keith Matthews! Brother Keith has worked with the seeds that he planted by knocking on our door, tended to the plants that sprouted and grew from his Entered Apprentice and Fellowcraft degrees, and reaped the fruits of his labors by being raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on October 26th. A big thank you to all of the Brothers who took part in the conferral of the degree. During the fellowship afterwards, I could tell that our newly raised Brother was deeply impressed and truly appreciated everyone who helped with the ceremony. A special tip of the cap to Brothers John White
of Evergreen Lodge #93 in Stevens Point and Tony Budaj of Phillips Lodge #225 who travelled to our Lodge and took part in the conferral, so our Brother could receive a degree worthy of someone who has been determined to be a master of the work!
There is also another bit of news to share. There is a new Past Master in our midst. During a Scottish Rite Reunion of the Eau Claire Valley, Brother Albie Kramer was good enough to pay a visit. Brother Senior Warden David Imlah, Brother Junior Barry Maxfield, and myself conferred and agreed that our Brother met the qualifications and should be honored as an Honorary Past Master of Forest Lodge due to his projections of Masonic values into the world, his devotion to advancing the business of Forest Lodge, and his example that he gives to the world beyond our Lodge walls have entitled him to this recognition. Please join me in congratulating our Brother for his honor!
As I write of these past two events I am reminded of the energy and joy that our Lodge has within it. It’s an energy that all of you have inside, otherwise you would not be a member of the Fraternity. You are continually trying to turn that rough ashlar into a perfect ashlar. And although we will all never ultimately get to that state of perfection that we all desire, we do knock off the corners and round out the rough edges. Thus making us better men and better enabled to project Masonic light upon the world. I hope you all take inspiration from Brothers Albie, John, and Tony and use their examples to project your Masonic light upon our Lodges and ultimately upon the world that we all take part in by filling niches, lending support, and contributing to the common good. It’s a big lesson that’s demonstrated by little things. I only hope that I can follow their examples.
See you at Lodge!
