We are seeing an increasing number of petitioners who have already done their research on Freemasonry on the Internet and then deciding to petition–yes, Masonry is benefitting from the technology of the 21 st century!
In addition, Forest Lodge has its own internet page which is updated so quickly that new information is posted as soon as the Lodge has voted on it. My grandfather certainly never saw this coming when he was Secretary of his Lodge in Chicago from the 1930s through 60s.
But while we welcome the new technology that allows us to reach a new generation of younger men, our ritual and landmarks remain. Regardless of your religious persuasion, you recognize that the Masonic ritual is based on the Old Testament of the Holy Bible. I’ve been re-reading some of the early books recently and I made a list of where Masonically-important stories or passages are located. Here’s my list, and I’m sure you can find others. It’s kind of exciting to read these stories from the source.
Genesis 4: 16-22 — Tubalcain is the 8th man from Adam (8th generation down)
Genesis 28: 10-22 — Jacob’s Ladder
I Kings Chapters 5-7 and I Chronicles 2-4 — The Building of King Solomon’s Temple
Judges 12: 1-7 — Story of the Ephraimites
Circumambulations: Psalm 133 (EA), Amos 7:7-8 (FC) and Ecclesiastes 12:1-7 (MM)
Happy Reading!
Yours truly in Peace and Harmony,
Dan Maguire, WM
