I consider myself a friendly person, when I see someone, I know I always greet them by asking how they are doing. And it never fails that their reply is “good how are you” and just by instinct I tell them I am “living the dream.”
I got to thinking the other day after I said that what is “the dream?” When I was in grade-school I always dreamed of being a police officer because I wanted to help people. Later during my junior and senior year in high school I dreamed of being a photographer, and after high school I even went to art school to become a photographer. The entire time I was attending college something felt wrong or out of place.
Later I discovered that it was me that was out of place. After college I worked two full time jobs and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what my dream was. One day I was helping my dad cut trails in his back woods and it clicked, my dream was to be like my dad.
Fast forward to the present, I have a great job, surrounded by great friends and family, married to an amazing woman and I am a father to a little boy who is my whole world.
Late one night after me and my wife put our son to bed, we realized we didn’t have dinner. So, I looked in the fridge and the pantry looking for something quick to eat before bed. We decided to have Oreos and a glass of milk for dinner, while dunking a cookie in milk listening to my wife tell me about her day I realized, I am living the dream.
