What makes a good story? We are told that it takes many different things to make a good story, good plot, good conflict resolution, and must be relatable.

Personally, I love all stories from books to movies or even sitting down with a stranger and hearing a story from their past. I believe we are the authors of our own story; it is up to us to make it a good story. A story of love and loss, life lessons, self-sacrifice, and events that make us who we are today.

I remember I was class marshal for Scottish Rite and one of the class members was not really involved much in conversation or participated much at all, he just sat by himself, and I could tell he was shy around strangers. After the day’s events we were in the basement by the bar, I bought him a drink and he asked, “how much do I owe you?” I told him if he wanted to pay me back, he could do so by telling me a story. He looked confused so I encouraged him to tell me his story, who he is, where he is from, why he joined Freemasons or why we were joining Scottish Rite. So, he told me his story, and the next Scottish rite reunion he was more involved and participated more.

Next time you see me, feel free to tell me a story I would love to hear it.

Fraternally,
Ryan Wojicechowski, WM
