Wausau Trestleboard
October 2022

Welcome to the beginning of the close, the first month of the last quarter of the year. Fall i here. The kids are back in full swing with school, and the trees have begun to lose their leaves.
As I sat down to write my message for the October Trestleboard, I stared at a blank piece of paper and wondered what I wanted to say? After all, the Trestleboard is my opportunity, as Worshipful Master, to “speak” directly to all members of our lodge.
This year has been very interesting and rewarding for me. It has been a year of adapting to
changes, facing challenges and lots of work. I had, before the year started, prepared a detailed plan with a fine list of things that I wanted to accomplish. My plan was not followed to the ‘T’, basically because of the influx of petitions, and other degree work already in process. This was a great problem to have! I couldn’t have been more blessed than to welcome all of the fine men who joined our Lodge during 2022 – and they are still knocking at our door!
I hope that some of the messages I relayed to you during the year have struck a chord with you. I’ve shared some of my most intimate thoughts with you, both in the Trestleboard and at our Lodge meetings. I hope that you were able to get to know me “a little more”. Looking back, I talked (1) about strengthening our brotherhood and comradery, igniting a
flame in our hearts and in the hearts of new candidates, which is the same light we all seek; (2) practicing the three principle tenets of Free Masonry – Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth; (3) that we must first subdue our passions, before passing judgement onto others, believing that this is a first step toward unity and brotherly love; (4) how Masonry is an unending journey of enlightenment through fellowship; (5) about ensuring the harmony of the Lodge; (6) I’ve reflected on why I became a Mason, and how my Masonic work will truly represent an important part of what I have done in my life.
I have talked about all these things and more, because they are all very important to me. I am very proud to be a member of the largest and oldest fraternity in the world, and to be part of a group of men who join together because there are things we want to do in the world, and there are things we want to do “inside our own minds.” I enjoy being together with men I can trust, men who I respect, and men who are my closest friends.
On August 24th, we had the privilege to welcome Brother Sam Koppela into our Fraternity, when he was initiated an Entered Apprentice. I also want to congratulate Brother Stephen Kalmon on being raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 27th at an outdoor degree; a rainy, muddy, challenging, and most enjoyable day. It was a pleasure to see so many Brothers working together, building and dismantling a rustic outdoor Lodge. A great time was had by all. On September 21st we welcomed our newest member to the Fraternity when Brother Kelly Coyle was initiated an Entered Apprentice. Congratulations! Keep watching your email messages from me, as we have more candidates being interviewed and degrees to be conferred.
Our District Meeting will be held on Saturday, October 8th, in Merrill at Virginia Falls Lodge. PLEASE TRY TO ATTEND, WE NEED TO HAVE GOOD REPRESENTATION AT THIS MEETING. Breakfast will be served at 8:00 AM, and the meeting will start at 9:00 AM. Additional activities may also take place after the meeting ends! Let me know if you are able to attend this very important meeting.
See you at Lodge!
Sincerely and Fraternally,
Rick Schnabel
